“At the moment, the primary concern for cap and trade participants is the long-term future of the program, especially in light of the upcoming provincial election,” comments Robert Cumming, Director of Environment, Lafarge Canada.
In this week’s Q&A interview, Cumming offers his informed perspective on the current opportunities of the cap and trade program and the major concerns of its participants. The current cap and trade program, he comments, represents an excellent opportunity for the Ontario Government to reinvest carbon pricing revenues back into local industry by providing funding towards the research, development, and deployment of new technologies.
This opportunity, however, is tempered by the current climate of political uncertainty in the province, with the long-term future of the program still in question. Cumming will also be speaking at the 2nd annual Ontario Cap and Trade Forum, taking place on April 18-19 at the Beanfield Centre, Toronto.
